S-219 Firing Operations NWCG Course

Location: Online/In-Person Oxford, MD
Course Description:
This blended course combines an online training (OLT) component with an instructor-led training (ILT) component. The course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of a Firing Boss, Single Resource (FIRB), as defined in the NWCG Standards for Firing Boss, Single Resource (PMS 350-105). Through a combination of self-paced online instruction and hands-on classroom and field activities, students will develop the competencies required to safely plan, coordinate, and supervise firing operations during prescribed fire and wildfire incidents.
Objectives
Identify the responsibilities of the Firing Boss, Single Resource (FIRB) for planning, implementing, and evaluating a firing operation on a wildland or prescribed fire.
Given a wildland or prescribed fire scenario, choose the proper components of a Firing Plan to meet specific objectives.
Implement a Firing Plan, adjusting as needed based on changing conditions.
Determine the unique considerations for managing higher complexity firing operations.
Course Content
This is a blended learning format course that is structured in two components:
Online Training (OLT) – Self-paced coursework available online through the Wildland Fire Learning Portal (WFLP).
Instructor-Led Training (ILT) – In-person, instructor-led classroom and field exercises designed to reinforce and apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the course.
